Auctions

How bidding works, what happens when you win, and everything in between.

How do auctions work?

Sellers list items with a starting price and a closing date and time. As a buyer, you place a bid at or above the current price. The highest bidder when the auction ends wins the item and is taken through to checkout to complete payment.

How do I place a bid?

On any active auction listing, enter your bid amount in the bid box and click "Place Bid". Your bid must be equal to or higher than the current minimum bid shown. You'll receive a confirmation and be notified if you're outbid.

What happens if I'm outbid?

You'll receive an in-app notification and an email letting you know you've been outbid. You can then return to the listing and place a higher bid if you'd like to stay in the running.

What happens when I win an auction?

You'll receive an in-app notification and a confirmation email. You'll then need to complete checkout — choose your delivery method (shipping or collection if offered), enter your address, and pay securely via Stripe. The seller is notified once payment is complete.

How long do I have to pay after winning?

You should complete checkout promptly after winning. If payment is not completed in a timely manner, the seller may be able to relist the item. If you're having trouble, contact us through our contact page.

Can I retract a bid?

Bids are legally binding once placed and cannot be retracted under normal circumstances. If you believe the seller has significantly misrepresented the item, contact us through our contact page and we will review the situation.

What is the buyer fee?

AquaLots charges a small buyer fee on successful purchases to cover platform and payment processing costs. The fee is calculated as a percentage of the sale price plus a fixed amount and is shown clearly at checkout before any payment is taken — you will never be charged more than the amount shown.

Can a seller cancel an auction early?

Sellers may cancel a listing before any bids have been placed. Once bids are active, a seller should not cancel without good reason. If you believe an auction has been unfairly cancelled after you placed a bid, contact us and we'll look into it.
